life, week 3

this makes me happy

Go faster, mamma! // making childhood memories

Pappa goes faster than you, mamma!

Take our picture, mamma! // post iceskating happiness // not pictured: a screaming Sverre in the pram

The easy choice is to drive straight home after kindergarten pick-up and let her watch Netflix on the iPad whilst I make dinner with Sverre in the carrier. When the lake offers ice-skating opportunities, the easy choice is no longer an option. We have to make the most of it - and it's so worth it! Even with a screaming baby and a worn out kid who doesn't want to walk home (I bribed her with the promise of an ice cream when we got home). #makingchildhoodmemories

Why use a pacifier when a toy does the same trick?

green pancakes for supper - Sara loved them // how to trick your kid into eating spinach // used this recipe

Sverre's first visit to the mountain cabin

As mentioned on Friday, we were set for Sverre's first visit to the mountain cabin this weekend. Luckily the temperature was just right to have Sverre in the pulk. He slept the whole time, so I think we can call his pulk debut successful. He also seemed to be happy at the cabin - I know Sara was.

My in-laws skied to the cabin Friday afternoon in order to get it well heated for the kids' arrival on Saturday. It was minus five degrees Celsius when they got there! Saturday night it was plus 25 and we had to open the windows for fresh air. The wood stove works very well indeed.

By the way, Our last visit to the cabin was last summer when I was 32 weeks pregnant.

things I like lately

Sara first visited the mountain cabin in the Easter holiday of 2012 when she was 5 months old // Fuji Velvia 100F, Canon EOS 500N

- the feeling of -10 degrees Celsius - it doesn't happen very often around these parts
- the way the fresh snow feels in ten below
- the fact that the neighbourhood lake is frozen and safe for ice skating
- ice skating for the first time in more than 20 years
- seeing how excited Sara is about ice skating
- my mom's dinner of baked halibut, boiled potatoes and carrots plus Sandefjordsmør (a sauce made of butter, cream, parsley and lemon juice)
- season 2 of Blacklist on Netflix (binge-watched this week)
- homemade fish gratin (fiskegrateng), using this recipe - the second time I've made it and now I'm hooked
- the news about our friends' pregnancy + this lovely couple too
- this and this by my old Flickr friend Stephanie
- Friday lunch with my mamma
- a hand-me-down radio (from my parents) for our bathroom
- a weekend ahead at the beloved mountain cabin - we are all excited for Sverre's first visit!

Things I don't like lately

- a sore back, probably due to carrying my big baby boy (he is already 8 kg!)
- it's suddenly 5 degrees and the snow is melting at rapid speed
- the amount of sweets I'm able to eat before I get sick combined with my current lack of willpower to stop - where has all the green juice gone?!

life, week 2

Working on new tricks for his upcoming four months birthday.

staring contest // Sverre cheated by knocking over the giraffe

snow falling, baby napping, the smell of freshly baked bread filling my home // now if I could only manage to transfer the sleeping baby from boob to bed so I can have some of that delicious bread for lunch

We have just entered the phase when sitting on my lap examining a toy is an acceptable way to pass time.

pre bedtime skiing // because finally snow

Trying to get Sverre to fall asleep again in the pram whilst soaking in that winter light. I failed.

making Sverre laugh

sleep vs ski

Friday 9 am

The view from my corner of the sofa as I contemplate my next move: another cup of coffee or fold the laundry...

four months old today // January 15

I desperately needed to satisfy my sweet tooth so I ate Sara's angel chocolates (thanks Lorena!). To my defence she is no big fan of chocolate (!)

These beauties kickstarted tulip season in our home. Thank you, aunt K!

Friday afternoon // sleep vs constant chatting

Still asleep after I moved him from my lap to the sofa - yay! - yet I sit there admiring him instead of tackling the chores.

Let it snow!

You know me, it's all about...

...the light! // woke up to -10 c this morning and I'm loving it

He bought (ridiculously expensive) exotic fruits. We didn't like either of them.

Sunday afternoon tobogganing

- with a view!
