summer at the mountain cabin, on film

Kodak Ektar 100, Canon EOS 500N

A few glimpses of our summer week at the mountain cabin. We enjoyed the time with friends and family; hiking, fishing, bathing, cooking and reading. We did however NOT enjoy the gazillion gnat/midge (?) ("knott" in Norwegian). It actually got so bad that both Sølve and I got homesick and wanted to leave. We have never ever felt this way whilst being at the mountain cabin before. Sara didn't seem to mind too much though. She just loved being outside, exploring and toddling around in the rough terrain.

PS: I have a few digital shots that I will share tomorrow | my kind of cabin life

about this project

- every Monday I post the week's menu
- I also post what we actually had for dinner the passed week (because it is fun to see if we actually followed the plan)
- there might be links to recipes, but the menu will mostly just be basic ideas for the dinners - often just based on what ever is in our fridge, freezer and cupboards
- Saturday and Sunday dinners will often not be planned ahead because we have a habit of buying whatever looks good in the store when we are out grocery shopping Saturday morning

things I don't like lately

- getting back to everyday life after the six weeks vacation and being a full time mamma - alone, all day - has been hard
- Sara's sleeping - both daytime naps and night - has been totally off all week
- I've been doing too much comfort eating - especially sweet stuff (which I have been pretty good at staying away from during the summer) - because it has been a hard week

where I lounge

This month's challenge over at NIB (Norwegian interior blogs) is "er du en stuepike?" - in other words; show off your livingrooms.

The homemade daybed is where it all happens after Sara has gone for sleep for the night - like now. We watch TV,  read books and magazines, play around online - doing the whole couch potato thing, especially in autumn.

For a lot more details and photos of our livingroom before and after our big renovation, please check out this post if you are interested.

sparkle + a few words about film

Kodak Ektachrome 100VS, Canon EOS 500N

I have been asked a few times where I get my film developed and whether or not I scan my own film. Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you guys who asked these questions, but here goes:

As you probably know, I live in Bergen, Norway. There are not a lot of options for getting film developed here. I get my film developed either at Antonio Stasi or Foto-Jørgen. It takes them 1-2 weeks to get it developed and scanned. I don't own a photo scanner and I don't think I would have the patience to scan my own film. Having to wait 1-2 weeks to get film back from the lab is already pushing my patience. I did consider getting a scanner a while ago though.

Speaking of film. In addition to the two rolls of film I got back from the lab yesterday, I have - for some unknown reason - been sitting on another three rolls that I have hardly shared anything from. I went through them all last night and prepared a bunch of posts that are ready to be published. Please stay tuned for some film galore around these parts in near future!

By the way, please feel free to ask more film related questions. I'm absolutely no expert, but I might be able to help you. Also, I'm hoping to have more why do you shoot film posts ready for you soon.

the holiday is gone, the everyday is on

summer sunset after rain; I like this photo a lot | Fuji Superia 200, Canon EOS 500N

Today was not the best day. It was pretty crap actually. Sara woke at 5:15 am and wouldn't go back to sleep. I kept my mood up in the early morning hours, looking forward to her good, long nap later in the morning. No such luck. She slept for half an hour. After that the whole day has just been about killing time until bedtime. Also, it has been pouring down all day. Bleh!

On days like these, I think it is extra important to make note of the positive and good things during the day. So, this is what I liked today

- a (mostly) tidy apartment
- leftover pasta with melted cheese for lunch
- having two rolls of film developed
- Norwegian sweet cherries
- lots of giggles with Sara - despite both of us being super tired all day
- I made a surprisingly good risotto for dinner
- a chat with our neighbor who has a son Sara's age
- a glass of red wine
- making dough for no knead bread (will be baked tomorrow morning)

So, any good things in your life today?
