there is a lot going on these days

We have already started packing a few of our things that will be stored at our parents' place until some time during autumn. Also; banana boxes are the best (free) moving boxes!

I have mentioned it a few times before. A possible huge change, that is now confirmed. No, I'm not pregnant. We are moving. From Bergen to Stavanger. Some time during autumn. The house hunt has already started, so has the process of selling our apartment. Only baby steps though.

There, I said it. Its official.

The reason for this sudden move, is that Sølve's company is setting up a Stavanger office. It has been in the works for a while, but now the board wants it to happen much quicker than we excepted. The move did not come completely out of the blue; we have talked about it before. Will we ever move back home (Stavanger is 15 km from our hometown Sandnes) or will we live in Bergen forever? We have lived in Bergen for 15 years now, so it feels just as much "home" as Sandnes does. Sandnes is were we both grew up, its were our parents and a lot of our friends live and it is close to the beloved mountain cabin. Bergen is were we have lived most of our grown up lives (if you can call being 18 years old grown up), its were we have shaped our life together as a couple - and then as parents.

Moving from Bergen is sad. Moving from this apartment that we have made our home, is even sadder. There is SO much we love about living here, even more so after the big renovation in 2011. It took me a while to get used to the fact that this will no longer be our home, but now that it has sunk in, I'm getting more and more ready for this change.

I'll most likely share more about this process later; lists of things I will miss about Bergen and our apartment, things I look forward to with living in Stavanger and a new home, etc. It feels good to finally share this news with you. As you can imagine, it is a quite dominant factor of our lives these days.

  1. How exciting! Good luck with the house hunting! (and this wont be a problem for you guys but I find the Stavanger dialect sooooooo difficult to understand!)

  2. Wow, that's really exciting, but a huge change for you at the same time. All I know of Stavanger is that you can fly there from Scotland, the islands I am from (Orkney) have close connections with Norway. Good luck with the move, it will be nice for you to be nearer your families now you have Sara, now I am a mum I wish we lived nearer ours.

  4. Wow, such exciting news! I am sure you will find a wonderful new home in Stavanger - you have showed so many great ideas how to decorate and set up a beautiful and awesome home.
And for your grand view in Bergen: you got great pictures - and hopefully a lovely view and surrounding in Stavanger. What kind of town is it?
Looking forward to your posts about the new home!

  12. When I first began reading you, I had never been to Norway. I came to teach a photography class recently and was staying with a friend in Stavanger ... and catching up on your posts tonight, I now have a much better idea about Norway. Previously unimaginable for this New Zealander. Good luck with your renovation. The city seemed beautiful and the art scene so very alive :-)
