french delights

Please enjoy the sight of these French delights while I have my laptop repaired... Hopefully I just need a new power cord. Worst case scenario is that the whole thing has crashed and I have lost everything on it. I do not know yet...

Please note that I did not take these photo. Click on these links to see the original photo in each photographer's Flickr photostream: 1. Untitled, 2. fine balance, 3. French Macaroons, 4. And Ladurer...

Edit: Luckily my laptop just needed a new power cord. Puh!

Evergreen

Photo by Peder Torget for Northern Lighting

It's no secret that I'm a big fan of Northern Lighting's lamps. Their new Evergreen pendant glass lamp - designed by Jens Praet and Vibeke Skar - is no exception. With such a classic shape, the name Evergreen is very suiting. Notice how it's hung; with those round thingies and that thingy for the lamp cord - me like!

things I like lately

the garden and huge oak tree at Fogn | Afga Precisa 100, Canon EOS 500N

- finding a name for our baby girl
- listening to Band of Horses, Laura Marling and Wovenhand while working
- a productive work week
- having established some sort of schedule of what to blog when (I wonder if anyone has noticed at all - have you??)
- planning to focus more on food in this space again - maybe with a new weekly food post (I'm now a member of Matbloggsentralen)
- slowly moving into our new old apartment; the renovation is more or less done, but we still have a few more pieces of furniture to finish - the table needs new legs, the sofa bed needs more work and the hi-fi shelf needs some finishing touches
- this photo by Brian, this by Sara and this by Hannah
- this lovely Norwegian blog; rosa + eple
- this home over at Freunde von Freunden
- Sweet Paul autumn issue
- the newest issue of one of my favorite Norwegian design magazines, Nytt Rom
- having a new slide film developed; it's filled with lovely photo memories from a fantastic weekend at Fogn
- the Seventy Tree's Spaces pins

golden

What's not to like about some glorious golden light, even though it sometimes is a bit blurry?

Top two photos are taken my me, spring 2011. Agfa Precisa 100, Minolta SRT 101. The other four photos are taken by excellent photographers found on Flickr. hi-fi storage search ends

A while ago I started posting inspiration for my search of the perfect hi-fi storage. My search was a bit half-hearted, so I only managed two posts. Now the search has ended because we have designed our own hi-fi storage shelf. It is being built as we speak. The material is Lagan oak bench tops from IKEA. I'll hopefully show you the finished result very soon.

Josh shoots film

Why do you shoot film, Josh?

Film was very important to me when I started taking pictures. Like many other photographers in the past and present, I fell completely for the experience of looking through the viewfinder of an old SLR camera - no lights and symbols, just a slightly hazy, rectangular view on the world. I was interested in movies, and knowing I was capturing things on the same medium as the films I loved was exciting. For a novice photographer who appreciates the soft appearance of moving film stock, I think digital photographs can be disappointing, because they just don't look right. If you're experienced, sure, you can get around it with careful editing. An old film SLR seems to do that job for you, and there is much more poetry in a lens flare captured on film than on a digital sensor - although I can't explain why!

You can get by using a digital camera while not really understanding how photography works. However, using a manual film camera with a light meter will teach you what happens when you press the shutter, and how to use exposure creatively. I don't vote in the 'film vs. digital' debate, because both have merits. But if you want to learn about photography, I would say "use film".

You can see more of Josh's photos on his Flickr.

things I like lately

"good food" is one of my favorites | Kodak Portra 400nc, Minolta SRT 101

- walking to the office, despite the rain
- driving towards the morning rush on my way to the other office
- realizing that my maternity leave starts in five weeks (in Norway it starts three weeks before the due date)
- after re-reading my list from last autumn, realizing how different this autumn will be from my "regular" autumns
- being at the verge of cracking the simple homemade vegetables soup nut (I'll post one of my recipes soon)
- suddenly feeling inspired to cook some proper weekday dinners again
- this interesting discussion
- this photo by Ida, this by Rachel and this by Charlotte
- after a week of pouring rain today is sunny with that perfect crisp autumn air
- being so close to finished with renovating our apartment, it is almost time to move in, for real (here is a quick video tour from earlier this week)
- receiving my copy of Smakfulle øyeblikk
