Here is some background information about my newest book, 30 days of winter, that you can win:
In December 2010 I received a package from Mallorca, Spain. It was a Christmas card and a film from my friend Lorena Arance, whom I’ve met online through Flickr and blogging. We share a passion for shooting film and Lorena sent me one of her favorites – a German film called Müller 200. In return I decided to do a special project of everyday life journaling, which I know Lorena adores.
I loaded this Müller 200 iso film in my Minolta SRT 101 camera on December 29 and took one photo every day until the film was finished. Each day I made a note of what I had photographed and wrote a few words about that day. The result is a record of 30 days of winter on the west coast of Norway.
The book is 36 pages, square format, soft cover. It is available here in my Blurb bookstore. You can view a little preview here (+ below) and I have uploaded a few of the photos from the book to this set on Flickr.
To participate in this giveaway I want you to answer this question:
What do you enjoy most about winter?
A winner will be picked at random on Friday March 18 ca 8 pm CET+1.
Hei Astrid,
ReplyDeletewhat i enjoy most about winter is eating a good cheese fondue with friends after a nice walk in the cold !
curling up on the sofa with a blanket and a book and a glass of red wine and an endless amount of cake.
ReplyDeleteI adore the cosy night at home in the Winter. When out is cold, dark and snowy I feel so special and good at home.
ReplyDeleteI adore to stay in front of my kitchen window and look at the falling snowflakes on the light of the street lamp.
The thing I enjoy most about winter is spending time inside: lighting candles, making a fire, knitting and enjoying a glass of whisky.
ReplyDeleteGreat book; I really admire your skill for making great photo-books.
ReplyDeleteWhat I enjoy most about winter is to wrap my self up in scarf, mittens and woolen sweaters(I have a lot); and also knitting them.
I love drinking hot tea when it's so cold outside.
ReplyDeletei enjoy the christmas markets but not because of christmas itself: i like the food and the atmosphere when it's supercold and snowflakes are falling down, you have a cup of punsch in your hands, eat a dark bread with melted gruyère cheese and have a chat with your friends.
ReplyDeleteor maybe i like snow and mountains and skiing even more. i can't decide! :)
Where I live we have had over 60 days in a row of temperatures of 40 degrees celcius or MORE! It has been a l-o-n-g HOT summer!
ReplyDeleteWhat I'll enjoy about winter this year are cold, wet, grey, windy days...hopefully.
I'm in!!!
ReplyDeleteThis might sound strange, but I think what I enjoy most about winter is the light.
The way it teases us, the long shadows it makes in the middle of the day, the way it falls on people's faces instead of on the top of their head.
I love winter for its light :)
in bed with a cup of coffee in hand and a book in the other.
ReplyDeleteWhile listening something classical music or jazz.
And at my feet, my dog Laika.
(I do not participate:))
I enjoy the crisp, clear days with blue blue skies and crunchy grass under my feet.
ReplyDeleteI'm from Israel so the best thing about winter are the rainy days, when the sky is grey and dripping.
ReplyDeleteI love taking a walk with an umbrella! Those days are a rarity here.
ReplyDeleteJeg vil gjerne delta i din give away.
God fredag!
Klem Karianne
The heat....of the water from the shower, of all sorts of tea, the one that comes from the oven when I am baking, my hot water bottle...and snuggling with my blanket whilst I watch a good film or read a book.
ReplyDeleteEvery winter the same thing - the first snowflake which fall on my face...
ReplyDeletedefinitely watching the snow fall when it's dark and being the first to walk through a fresh cover of snow :)
ReplyDeleteWinter... for me is about the first snow and the magic you feel then. Is about short days and longer nights for having more time to yourself. To sit and think and nothing to distract. Is about hot cups of tea and coffee and cocoa with beautiful steam. Is about feeling safe at home more than any other time in the year. Winter for me is about being more grateful.
ReplyDelete:-)
I love baking cakes and cookies and snugging home with my family after a day of wark, knowing something yummy is in the oven :-)
ReplyDeleteand I love christmas, too!!
what I enjoy most about winter is the feeling I feel. it's hard to describe in words, but it's definitely different from all the rest of the seasons. I don't live in a winter-y area so my winters are what a mild autumn is for most people. but the feeling... is a bit of relaxed happiness that doesn't have anything to do with the holidays.
ReplyDeleteWalking on fresh snow and hearing that crunch the snow makes when you step on it.
ReplyDeleteWhat I most enjoy in winter is Christmas time. And having more time to sew and knit.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance!

Coucou Astrid!
ReplyDeleteI think that my favourite thing in winter is making a fire in a stove of a fireplace. The smell and the noise of the burning logs make me feel happy!
Hei,
ReplyDeleteWhat I enjoy most about winter is to arrive home after a cold walk, and to feel warm and fine with my nearest persons :)
What I enjoy most about winter is that quiet when it is snowing hard and when everything is snow covered. It's so peaceful. Your book is beautiful, Astrid!
ReplyDeleteA nice warm bath with my book after a cold day out.
ReplyDeleteWhat I enjoy most about winter is the cold itself. Here in the Algarve it's usually hot until mid November, so colder temperatures are welcome by then!
ReplyDeleteWhat I enjoy most about winter is how eerily quiet it seems after it snows. That, and a warm beverage.
ReplyDeletethe silence?
ReplyDeleteoh wow, this book is beautiful, astrid! what i love most about winter? coming home after a long walk in the cold, drinking a cup of coffee with milk foam and cinnamon...
ReplyDeleteHei Astrid,
ReplyDeleteWhat I enjoy most in winter is linked to what I miss more wich is the light. So in winter I am irresistibly attracted by any twinkle light.
the muted colours of nature, candles &
ReplyDeletehot puddings!
I have never been a fan of winter and always ejoyed summer more. This winter I've found out that winter is not so bad. One of the things I totally enjoy about winter and I'm going to miss in summer is the moment when I, cold and frozen, go to a café and have a cup of something warm and good.
ReplyDeleteAnd also skiing. I'm not very good at it but I enjoy it.
Our dining room has a fireplace and this becomes my favorite room in winter. With gardening put aside for three months, I have more time to read, write, edit photos and make Blurb books. Also I love to spend the coldest days making soups, stews, a big roast or baking bread.
ReplyDeleteHei Astrid!
ReplyDeleteWhat I love about winter is taking a walk in a snowfall, when the snowflakes are so big you can almost here them "plop" when they reach the ground. There is something magical about those moments, especially at night.
Thank you for the chance to win your book. I would be honoured.
Great book!!!
ReplyDeleteI like that its a time to slow down and recharge. Oh and cozy fires. Love those lots!!
Congratulations. It looks amazing.
cold noses, hot chocolate, scarves, furry socks, long shadows, my breath in foggy puffs of smoke, crystal clear crisp blue skies, stark branches and naked trees, snuggles with my daughter and fiance...
ReplyDeletejust to name a few things :)
ReplyDeleteOhhh, so lovely, dear Astrid!!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite thing about Winter is the crisp air, the warm sunshine, and the *crunch* *crunch* *crunch* of the snow beneath my feet.
Happy Sunday! :*
Making and eating delicious soups, with toasted bread. Also the quiet beauty of the snow as it falls.
ReplyDeleteHei Astrid

ReplyDeletewhat i enjoy most about winter is the stillness created within.
ReplyDeleteHi Astrid! What I love about winter most, is getting into out into the snow - which I love because it's white and fluffy, but hate because it's cold - preferably in sunny weather and on a mountain, and then get back inside, to have a hot hot shower or a sauna, and a great meal with a glass of wine afterwards.
ReplyDeleteHeaven! :)
I like how in winter life is centered so much around home, being warm and cosy. It makes spring all the more spectacular!
ReplyDeleteooh what a great giveaway!
ReplyDeletewhat i enjoy most about winter is that feeling of coming inside after freezing outside and stripping off the cold outerwear, then making a hot cup of tea and curling up under some covers to watch a movie for the rest of the night and not having to go outside again. :)
from someone whose winters consists in some rain and absolutely *no* snow, only last year did i enjoy a good just as it should be winter, with snow and lots of wool and bagels and hot cocoa. So its hard to pick a favorite thing, but snow, most definitely won my sunny heart.
ReplyDeletexoxo
I like iceskating on frozen lakes, candles, hot drinks and that everything is a bit slower and more comfortable.

That perfect moment when you're snowboarding - it's a blue bird powdery day and you think it can't get any better, but then that ONE song comes on your ipod and it's just perfect.
ReplyDeleteThat is the best thing about winter. fact. x
a long winter walk & my couch with a soft blanket, good book ,coffee
oh, this just warms my heart! i so love winter for its bareness on the outside & coziness on the inside. winter is a good excuse to make a pot of chili & invite friends over.
