a lunch stop

After Hvaler we stopped by some other friends who live in that hood. Unfortunately it has been a while since our last visit there, but we sure had fun then too. They served us an impeccable lunch before we got in the car to drive to Skien.

Btw, he is an excellent photographer - check out his photos here.

rainy summer days

We just spent a couple of rainy days at a seaside cabin at Hvaler with our friends and their two kids (1,5 and 3,5 years). Instead of sun, sand and swim we had blueberries, waffles, champagne and pink Hello Kitty toe nails. We had a blast! Now we are in Skien to visit family on my mother's side.

Hotel Bristol, Oslo

About one month ago, whilst on this roadtrip, Sølve and I stayed at Hotel Bristol in Oslo. That's when I took these shots (film: Fuji Provia 100F). It's a really nice respectable hotel. I liked it a lot. We stayed there again a couple of nights ago during our short stay in Oslo, before I did a quick roadtrip to Arvika, Sweden - and then we headed out to a seaside cabin at Hvaler.

Here are some glimpses of the start of our summer vacation; a weekend spent at a sea side cabin in Mandal with friends and kids.

This evening we are off to the mountain cabin. The weather forecast says there will be a lot of rain...

sea side summer

Today summer started for real; I took my first sea bath (in Mandal) of the season. It was refreshing, really nice actually. (In Norway summer time bath temperatures never get much above 20°C.) This shot was taken in Drøbak though, on this roadtrip.

Film: Agfa Precisa 100

Btw, I picked up those 3 slide films at the lab on Friday before we started our roadtrip. One Agfa Precisa 100, one Fuji Provia 100F and one Fuji Velvia 50. I'll show you more later.

roadtrip: Arvika - Bergen

My longest ever solo roadtrip started at 8:30 am in Arvika, Sweden on Thursday July 15.

After ca 35 min I stopped in Charlottenberg to tank. That is when I learnt the difference between E85 and 95... Luckily Ole at Engelbrekts Motor helped me get rid of some of that E85. Then I bought some Swedish magazines and Champagne at Systembolaget and left Charlottenberg at 1130am.

I passed a lot of logs on my way to Elverum.

Arvika was really sunny and warm. The weather changed as I drove further into Norway.

I passed a lot of pines...

...and enjoyed my roadtrip snack.

Between Hamar and Dokka it rained a lot.

After Filefjell the sun came out. There were quite a few campervans on the road.

Those blue lights in Lærdalstunnelen are amazing.

This photo and an exchange of MMS photos lead to a very random dinner date with Øystein and his lady at Fretheim hotel in Flåm.

Close to Voss I passed some cows crossing the river. Finally, after about 670 km, I arrived in Bergen at 11:30 pm.

Friday afternoon Sølve and I got in the car for another roadtrip. This time to Mandal, on the southern coast of Norway. We are going to do a whole lot of driving the next couple of weeks. Our summer vacation has started!

PS: Here is a map of my roadtrip.

everyday life: look down version, part V

July 1: I think the plant in my office needs more water. Or light. Or both.

Left: July 1: The Hagen sisters hiked up mount Ulriken in the sun.
Right: July 4: The Mykletun family found the perfect lunch spot by the river in the Flåm valley.

July 6: I found a banana on my way to the office.
