Lisa shoots film

Why do you shoot film, Lisa?

I started shooting film not too long ago. I had already been collecting old manual lenses that I used on my digital camera for a while and I thought that it wouldn't hurt to try film. It wasn't a big effort taking the step; all I had to do was finding a decent analogue camera body that could mount those lenses. Getting the first rolls back I was pretty much blown away by the tones and the feeling of depth. I think there's a special atmosphere that you can't find in digital. I'm really not a film purist. I still do digital for fun, for trying out new ideas and for reference in those cases I don't trust the light meter on the analogue camera. But when it comes to special occasions, like Christmas, meeting friends and vacation trips then film is my first choice.

You can see more of Lisa's film photos in this set on Flickr and on her film blog analogt.

more Amalie Design

Amalie is wearing the same dress as in the photo in post, but here she's wearing it more like a jacket. The scarf is also her own design.

Amalie is one of the artists down at the dock at USF.

Sunday Suppers

It was love at first sight when I saw this image over at A Cup of Jo yesterday. Such an inviting scene, and such a beautiful table! Read more about the Sunday Suppers concept and see more photos on the Sunday Suppers blog + in this Martha Stewart Living article. Seems like a perfect way to spend a Sunday!

right now

I wouldn't mind of of these while I'm working late and listening to the sound checks for tonight's Nattjazz concert in Røykeriet at Verftet - this concert venue is right below my office...

What are you up to this Wednesday evening?

Film: Fuji Provia 100F

Edit: It's now 1015 pm and I'm still stuck at the office - and the concert with Mulatu Astatke has just started. It almost feels like I'm there. Haha.

so right

Although I don't like gin and tonic ;-)

You can get the print here (via A Cup of Jo).

Tara shoots film

Why do you shoot film, Tara?

first of all, i want to say that i've only been taking pictures for a year or two, so it is all experimentation for me. all a learning process.

but, one reason i've begun to shoot film is that it is a relief from the obsessiveness that grips me when i use my digital camera. i take multiple versions of the same shot, and even though i do love it, and the results, and feel that i am learning from shooting this way, it makes me a little crazy. i sat through several events that my daughters were in, watching it all through the viewfinder, or in instant replay on the display screen, until one time i finally realized i had gotten the shot, but i hadn't seen her walk across the stage to get her award. i'm increasingly turning towards film as a way to relax and enjoy what photography is all about for me in the first place: noticing things around me and being fully appreciative of the moment i am in.

that said, the most important reason by far is that i love the way film looks. digital is so clear and perfect...but it's not the way i remember something or some moment. film looks more like what i see in my head. the softness and the texture of film ironically seem to me more authentic than the clarity of digital. in life you don't get the chance to get every moment perfect. you don't get do-overs. moments are fleeting and you get a chance to capture them, and then they're gone.

Here are a couple of new products in that yellow from Swedish Blå Station:

I don't think I would like to have these chairs in my livingroom, but maybe in the garden.
