my new office neighbourhood

I promised to show you some photos from my new office neighbourhood. Here they are - shot with Ilford Delta 3200 film. It's a bit hard to see because it's so dark, but most of the dark parts of the bottom photo is water. I'm pretty sure you will see more photos from this part of Bergen in this space in the future.

Translation of the text in the top photo: hip hop is dangerous.

longing for Italia

While working on another small article about Rome today, I found a few film shots (taken with one of my favorite films, Kodak Portra 160vc) that I have not posted to Flickr. I had almost forgotten about them. This shot was taken in a cozy little bar in the even cozier village of Santa Fiora in Tuscany.

It's been too long since I was in Italy, I really want to go back soon. Hm, well, when I think about it, it's not been that long... I was in Parma in May last year, so I should not complain ;-) Btw, if you have not already seen it, you can read my article (in Norwegian) from Parma here. It was published in one of the local newspapers, BA, in June last year.

The article I wrote today is based on my visit to Rome in October 2008, mentioned in this post. The trip was organized by the lovely Charlotte of Jomfrureiser and Marianne of Taste Tours. You can see all my photos from this trip in this set on Flickr.

We are starting the weekend with homemade pizza tonight. Happy Friday!

everyday life

Monday February 22: The snow covered my glasses. I took them off and walked home in a snowy, white blur.

Tuesday February 23: I am glad he is coming home tonight. I have missed him.

Wednesday February 24: He wanted to ski to work. I said no, because I knew it would feel weird coming in to the city center on skis. Silly me.

Thursday February 25: On our way to work in the snow, we decided to have cod for dinner. I have never had basil with cod before.

my office

Here are some glimpses of my office in black & white, shot with Ilford Delta 3200 film. After three years it's time to move on; next week I'm moving to my new office at Verftet. Verftet is an art arena with five venues for presentation of music, theatre, films and contemporary art. Verftet also hosts several artist in residence programmes + there are offices and studios for people working in various creative fields. Kafé Kippers is The Best spot for an outdoor drink or two on sunny days. I'll be sharing the space with four graphic designers, an actress/comedian, an interior designer and a translator. I'm very excited!

I have some black & white photos from my new office neighbourhood that I'll share soon.

Another inspiring residential interior by the before mentioned Autoban.

orgy

This sofa has such an inviting shape! Not sure I would have it in my own home though. Orgy is designed by Karim Rashid for Swedish Offecct.

my stew

A favorite dinner this winter has been various vegetable stews, with or without meat. They are healthy and easy to make, and are excellent for leftover dinners. In my opinion they even taste better the next day. Yesterday I made a spicy version and here is how I made it:

- diced root vegetables: potatoes, swedish turnip, carrots, onion and celery root
- water enough to cover the vegetables + stock cubes
- 2 cans of tomatoes
- spices: garlic, a small red hot chili, herbs de Provence, Worcestershire sauce, pepper
- meat from the freezer, I think it was sirloin of beef, pan fried with chili explosion
- let it simmer until the vegetables are done

The rest of this week's dinner menu will of course be posted on Sunday.

Btw, the bowl is a thrift store find; an old Figgjo Flint piece.

Spectra

I'm normally not a big fan of colored glass, but I like these vases from Danish Holmegaard.

With Spectra, Cecilie Manz has created an elegant range of hand blown vases in transparent colours, reminiscent of Holmegaard’s portfolio in the 19th century. Spectra is stackable and meets today’s demands for minimalism, both in its appearance and demand on space.

As the glass are mouthblown, the glass may contain air bubbles. This is one of the charming side effects of the glass blower blowing soul into the glass.

sunsets

I absolutely love seeing the summer sunsets from our kitchen window! Very different from today's view. All this snow is so unusual for Bergen! No sign of spring yet.

Lindsay shoots film

Why to you shoot film, Lindsay?

When I'm taking pictures, capturing moments and creating memories with photographs, film is the way I want to look back and remember my experiences.

I've always loved flipping through old photographs from my childhood, my parent's childhood and further in the past because of the sense of feeling that the film helps create for me- a depth I can imagine in. Film helps add to the excitement and aura of a past that, even if not partaken in, I feel a strong nostalgia for.

You can see more of Lindsay's photos in her Flickr photostream.

the white stripes

The very lovely Brigg of Briggs lekehus and her new baby boy came over for cupcakes, coffee and conversations yesterday. She told me the matching stripes were unintentional. For me they were the perfect photo op.

Happy Friday guys!

work

This is some work I did before Christmas; articles for a Norwegian interior design magazine that focus on interiors for workspaces and public spaces such as restaurants, hotels etc.

The first article is an interview with Bergen based furniture designer Geir Sætveit, mentioned here.

The other article is about the renovation of the biggest cinema theatre in Bergen, designed by Fuggibaggi Design and photographed by Daniel Clements. You can read the article (in Norwegian) here.
