today I turn 30

Today, October 28, I turn 30 years old and tomorrow morning Sølve and I are off to Paris with two close friends. They love food and champagne just as much as we do. It's going to be the most perfect start of my 30s!

In the photo above I'm wearing the birthday gifts from my darling friend L; an elegant black top (or very short dress ;-) and a beret, both from the stylish Tiger of Sweden. Thank you sooo much, L. You are the best!

By the way, the silver pillow was a gift from my friend the 10 cent designer when she and her husband visited Bergen in August. So fab!

Below are some of my Paris inspirations; some guide books, a handy map book that Jolayne gave us when we met her in Paris in December 2007, Pia Jane Bijkerk's beautiful Paris: Made by Hand and the photo book My Paris Equation of Happiness by Mariana Newlands.

Happy weekend all!

PS: I'll give you a report on this list later.

crafty girls in print

The article about the crafty girls that I mentioned to you about a month ago is now out in Kamille number 22. The working title for the article was "hot håndarbeid" which means hot crafting. The idea is that cool modern women also enjoy craft, not only old grannies. For the article I interviewed and photographed my friend Katrine, Brigitta of Briggs lekehus, and Tove + Kristine of Luddeklær. They are all such lovely, creative women!

everyday stories galore

You already know that I like everyday life and I like making Blurb books. You might also remember that I made a Blurb book of my 2008 photo a day project. I love having a book made of this project, so I decided to do the same with everyday life photos taken this year. Seeing the photos in a book instead of just on the computer screen is a totally different thing.

Because of Blurb's excellent new feature, you can now preview all the 268 pages of my everyday stories - a photographic memory of my 2008 book here. Enjoy!

I have made two 2009 books so far, and I'm working on the third one for September til December. They are all 200 pages standard landscape format, hardcover imagewrap. I won't make the books public, so you can't see the full book preview in my Blurb book store. But I have taken some photos of the books that you can see in these sets on Flickr:

Blurb book: 2009 - from january til june
Blurb book: summer 2009

Tell me, what do you do with your (everyday life) photos?

birthday boy!

Today, October 26th, is my husband's birthday. Gratulerer med dagen, Sølve!

(I'm serving him a Berliner with vanilla custard - one of his favorites)

the photo album is beautiful

Remember this?

My copy of the book arrived last week, and it's truly beautiful. The Frankie peeps did such a great job selecting photos and pairing them. I'm really proud to be part of this book. My photo is the one with the plate and egg, as seen here.

The book is limited edition, but it seems like it's still available. You can get you copy of the book here.

I have uploaded a few more photos from the book to this set on Flickr.

Rachel shoots film

Why do you shoot film, Rachel?

For me, shooting film captures an essence, an emotion that isn't present in digital images. I find the process of photography as important to my work as the images themselves. Hearing the click of the shutter and feeling the film advance under my hand inspires me to shoot more. Also, with digital cameras I often find myself immediately looking at the image. I'll taken photo after photo trying to get that "perfect" picture, noticing all the tiny flaws. With film, I take my photo and then have to wait for the result. When I finally see the image I am able to enjoy the result without picking apart the photo. It's ultimately the soul of film photography that keeps me coming back again and again.

You can see more of Rachel's photos in this and this set on Flickr.

book contest voting

You might remember that I recently made a new Blurb book entitled to go from one place to another. I entered the book in the Best Blurb Book Contest, and the voting has now started. Feel free to vote if you like :-)

The photo above was taken on one of my many travels between Bergen and Sandnes. It was taken with Kodak Elite chrome extra color 100 slide film.

autumn were we grew up

My sister Mari and I have been in Sandnes visiting our parents this weekend. On Saturday we went for a walk in the forrest/arboretum behind our parents' house. The weather was perfect and so were the autumn colors. You can see more photos from our walk in this set on Flickr.

I hope you had a nice weekend too.

Deborah shoots film

Why do you shoot film, Deborah?

shooting film is like a first love. you remember the giddiness of loading a camera with a roll of film for the first time and if you were lucky enough having to manually wind every shot there is anticipation of develop the film in a darkroom, while fumbling under the red light and crossing your fingers, hoping that the roll of film liked you back.

i don't see myself as a technical photographer. in fact my eyes just glaze over when i see too much of the technical stuff - it takes away what i see as the romance of photography. i prefer to focus more the natural light, going with an instinct and paying attention to the composition of a shot. i find that shooting with film helps me to frame a shot, whether it is 35mm or polaroid.

shooting with film is all about taking it slow. not rushing your shot. not always over thinking it either. happy with the accidents and joyous when the light is just right.

You can see more of Deborah's photos in her film sets on Flickr - here and here.

work

Here are a few things I've been working on lately (photos taken with my cell phone):

An article about the Stavanger based brewery Lervig for BAR Apéritif (with my photos).

An article about Rome (with my photos) for an arts magazine called Aktuell Kunst. The photos are from my trip to Italy one year ago.

An article about a new office building (Nonnen) in Bergen for Næringseiendom Interiør. Photos by Lars Svenkerud.

Ann-Kathrin shoots film

Why do you shoot film, Ann-Kathrin?

It's the light.
Nothing captures a blindingly bright streak of sunshine or a temptingly gloomy patch of darkness as film does.
When I think about taking a photograph I have a certain image in my mind that I want to achieve. This doesn't necessarily correlate with the actual situation. Using film to shoot a photograph is like painting the picture you can imagine.
Film truly tells the story of what could have been.
Film uncovers what I have seen.

You can see Ann-Kathrin's (a.k.a. Keksofant) film photos on Flickr; here and here.
