crafty girls

In a few weeks my article about these busy hands will be in the Norwegian women's magazine Kamille (in number 22). I'll tell you more when it's out.

Now I'm going to watch Lipstick Jungle and indulge in some rice pudding. I'm only on season one of Lipstick Jungle, and by mistake I read a spolier. Bummer! Well, I'm loving it anyway - just like I love SATC.

Abby shoots film

Why do you shoot film, Abby?

I shoot film because I love its saturated colors, the surprise of it and its permanence. You have to try and do all of the editing before you take the photo and I love that selectiveness.

everyday life

I have more or less settled back into the routines of everyday life after our honeymoon. It took some time though. My Flickr has been full of vacation photos lately, but tonight I have uploaded some everyday life shots and small stories. Take a look if you want to. By the way, I'm sitting in the sofa watching the moon outside the livingroom window. It's beautiful. I hope your evening/day/morning is fine too.

yellow fever

I'm normaly not a big fan of yellow, but I have seen this shade of yellow popping up in different interiors, and I think I'm falling in love...

Frankie: the photo album

While we were in Barcelona in July I got an email from Australian Frankie magazine. They said they were going to make a photo book and they wondered if I would like to contribute with this photo. Of course I accepted.

The first ever Frankie magazine photo book is now published and they say it looks great. It will be sent to the contributors during October. I can't wait to see the result!

This is what Frankie says about the book:

Oooh look! We’ve made our very first frankie photo album. Designed to inspire anyone who’s ever picked up a camera and delight those who just like looking at pretty pictures, the photo album features the work (and thoughts) of more than 100 amateur and professional photographers from around the world. You can pre order yours now from our shop. Hurry if you don’t want to miss out, ‘cause they’re limited edition and will sell fast.

Cristina shoots film

Why do you shoot film, Cristina?

My answer is almost immediate: I use film because of its quality. My prefered media, as a visual artist, are photography and painting. When I photograph, I either have a project, or I think it can become something to work on in the future. I am not a fundamentalist, though. I use digital, for another type of register – to document, or to share something quickly on the web.

You can see Cristina's photos on Flickr and on her website.

If you are in Porto, Portugal today (Sunday September 27th), you should stop by the opening of the group exhibition she has curated; Introspective. It features photographs by herself, Nana Kokoyama and Marie Ek. I really wish I had stayed in Porto for a few more days so I could see this.

moments galore

Blurb is about to launch a new feature; an online full book preview for all public books on Blurb.com. This means that when anyone checks out your public book, you can let them see a low-resolution cover-to-cover preview instead of just the first 15 pages they currently see.

Remember I have told you about my Øyeblikk book? Well, you can now view a full book preview of it on Blurb.com - here. Enjoy!

Flirtini

Vodka, sparkling wine and pineapple juice - Flirtini. One of my favorite cocktails. Maybe I'll make one during the weekend, but tonight I'll enjoy the Vinho Verde I brought home from Portugal. How about you; what is your choice of drink to celebrate the start of the weekend?

By the way, I have developed another slide film (Kodak Ektachrome E100VS), this time taken with my dad's old Minolta (I normally use my old Canon EOS 500N). I have just uploaded the first photo to Flickr.

Happy weekend!

Vinho Verde, Portugal

I've been 3 days in the Vinho Verde region in Portugal for work. I've had a great time tasting a lot of yummy wines and meeting a very lovely Flickr friend. This photo was taken at Quinta de Soalheiro. I'll show you more photos later, including some black & white film photos. It's only the second time I've shot b&w film (the first time was long ago), so I'm very curious about the result.

mav shoots film

Why do you shoot film, mav?

I like the surprise. I find no satisfaction in taking a digital photograph and pulling my camera away from my eye to see the photograph right then and there. I see how it is a useful way to take photographs but it doesn't please my heart, mind or soul. I do, however, adore carrying a little point-n-shoot with me in my bag everyday, shooting as I see something and getting the film back not knowing what the negatives will reveal. There are so few surprises in life; using film to take photographs is a lovely surprise for me.

See more of mav's photos on Flickr, and check out her other projects here.

Kathya shoots film

Why do you shoot film, Kathya?

I shoot film simply because not matter what kind I've used, it has always made me happy! It's like an old friend that never disappoints and when it does, it's usually because I did something wrong or I was impatient. Film makes a person realize that there's more to life than shooting blind... meaning that a person has to take time and really understand and feel what they are doing. :)

See more of Kathya's photos on Flickr and her website.

Steph shoots film

Why do you shoot film, Steph?

I grew up shooting film with my dad, and my favorite thing to do was look through his contact sheets and slides, cutting out the images and making storybooks. There is a physical connection with the image. I’ve always liked the way photo paper feels in my hands and holding slides up to the light.

But beyond that, there are colors and textures with film that just cannot be duplicated digitally. There is something richer about the soft spots and deeper in the tones. I have to think harder about what I’m doing and the results are more rewarding.

See all of Steph's film shots in this set on Flickr. Visit her blog too; little miss twig

Hvaler, Norway

After Malmön, Hvaler was the last stop of our 23 days long honeymoon. We visited our friends J and N and their two kids (3 and 1) at their family cabin by the sea. Just like Malmön, Hvaler is the perfect place for lazy, easy summer days. We have been there once before, in 2006 - it was wonderful to be back!

These photos were taken with Fuji Sensia 100 slide film. You can see all the photos from Hvaler in this set on Flickr.

These are the last of our honeymoon photos. I hope you enjoyed seeing them. I sure have enjoyed reliving our travels by sharing the photos and stories with you. You can see all the honeymoon photos in this set on Flickr.
